Development Features of the Lego Company History

The company began to expand into new frontiers of the model industry. In 1971 LEGO begun to target women with the release of furniture pieces and dollhouses; in 1974 this introduced their first individual figures, referred to as Minifigures; and in 1979 this expanded in space with sets offering astronaut minifigures, rockets, lunar rovers and spaceships. The Successione series first showed that same year, a line of earrings elements aimed toward young girls. This period also observed the creation of a control structure, with Godtfred Kirk Christiansen’s son Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen signing up the managerial staff and working to modernize the company’s manufacturing strategies.

The 1970s also found the introduction of a method that allowed customers to select certain stones they wished to purchase and build their own units, rather than buy pre-made guides; this was popular with adults, as well as kids. In the same decade, Profano branched out into medieval territory with the Castle motif, and in 80 the company added its first teach sets to its collection.

In 1989 Lego brought in the Pirate look, and with it numerous types of pirate ships, desert islands and treasure. The corporation also broadened its array of facial expression, adding beards, eye bits and lip stick in addition to the common two sight and smile. Some aged Lego collectors resented these changes, preferring the more simple faces of earlier designs.

As Profano expanded in a huge international corporation, it had to find ways to satisfy the needs of the big name buyers like Focus on, Wal-Mart and Toys ‘R’ Us, which in turn demanded greater selections and faster shipment times. To keep up with these requirements, the company begun to reduce total production time for new products by making more using of computerized assembly systems.
